NC CARES: Humanities Relief Grant

We are very grateful to be one of the 59 organizations selected to be awarded an NC CARES: Humanities Relief Grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. This Humanities Relief grant will enable us to upgrade our platform and share virtual tours of our exhibits for community members who may have risk-factors and therefore feel unsafe visiting us in person. These virtual tours will allow us to continue to serve the community and maintain our public engagement during the pandemic. This NC Cares grant will also provide audiovisual resources so that we may interview elders in our community and preserve their memories and life experiences for posterity. This “Living Library” of interviews will help us to save the knowledge of the subjects that might otherwise be lost and allow us to share them with the public and students. Especially at this time, we feel that learning from the past can only help to aid in shaping the future. The North Carolina Humanities Council is a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Through grant-making and public humanities programs, the Council serves as an advocate for lifelong learning and thoughtful dialogue about our shared human experience. The Council operates the North Carolina Center for the Book, an affiliate program of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.
